Call for Tutorials

The CPAL 2027 Organizing Committee invites proposals for in-person tutorials that advance our understanding of intelligence through the lens of parsimonious learning and its many facets. We welcome tutorials on a wide range of topics, including:

theories and mathematical foundations of parsimonious learning;
algorithms, optimization, and implementations;
sparse, low-rank, structured, modular, and compressed learning systems;
efficient foundation, generative, multimodal, and agentic models;
applications in science, engineering, medicine, robotics, and other domains;
hardware and systems for efficient learning; and
connections to neuroscience, statistics, signal processing, applied mathematics, and related fields.

Tutorials should be broadly appealing to the CPAL community and accessible to PhD students working in machine learning and intelligence. A strong tutorial should cover a sufficiently mature body of research or practice, provide a balanced and accessible overview, and help attendees understand both the core ideas and open directions. We especially encourage teams of presenters from different institutions or perspectives.

Submission Guidelines

Tutorial proposals should contain:

Title
Abstract: a summary of the tutorial content, up to 250 words.
Outline: a detailed outline of the topics covered, including references and estimated time allocation.
Target audience: the intended audience and expected background.
Presenters: for each presenter, name, affiliation, email address, and a short bio, together with an explanation of how presentation time will be divided.

All presenters are expected to attend in person. The tutorial proposal form will be linked from this page and the CPAL 2027 website.

Selection Criteria

Tutorial proposals will be evaluated based on:

relevance to CPAL’s theme of parsimonious learning;
clarity and comprehensiveness;
expected educational value and impact on the audience;
maturity and timeliness of the topic; and
presenter experience, complementarity, and diversity of perspectives.

Tutorial Format

Tutorials will be held entirely in person and will be approximately 120–180 minutes long. Each tutorial should have at least two presenters.
